Abstract: 
Industry antivirus and sandbox solutions are trying to solve a complex NP complete problem. Abstract Computer viruses are usually small software programs that are designed to spread from one computer to another and to interfere with computer operation. In this talk I will prove that detecting a virus is a challenging NP complete problem I will then present industry solutions such as antiviruses and sandboxes and present how the solution aims to solve this challenge using heuristics , randomization and simulation. I will also present live effectiveness of the methods and provide basic statistical tools to help quantify the value of choosing multiple solutions. Students will be provided with a license to a Metascan online multiscanner and access to live viruses to provide the opportunity to experiment building basic security solutions using the provided license in exchange.
