Claudio Fleiner, a Software Engineer with Transmeta, joined the company in 1999. Fleiner was offered a scholarship from the Swiss National Foundation to work at the International Computer Science Institute, where he completed his PhD thesis. In 1996, Fleiner returned briefly to Switzerland to join IBM Research in Zurich before transferring back to California to the IBM Almaden Research Center in 1998.
