Edward
Lank is an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department
at San Francisco State University. In 2001, he completed
a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Queen's University in Kingston,
Ontario. His undergraduate degree s a B.Sc. with Honors
in Physics from the University of Prince Edward Island,
PEI, Canada.
Dr. Lank's previous experience includes
a research internship at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center,
and a position as an adjunct professor in Computer Science
at Queen's University. As well, he served as interim Chief
Technical Officer to a research start-up, MediaShell Corporation.
Dr. Lank's research focuses on interactive
diagram recognition, particularly of UML notation. He has
published papers in document recognition and user interface
design for diagram recognition systems. He is also the co-author
of two patents filed with the US Patent and Trade Office
in the application of pattern recognition to user's actions
in pen-based interfaces.
