Subject:
An Exploratory Study of Open Source Software User Groups
Abstract:
Open source software (OSS) has rapidly become a popular area of study within the research community. Most of the research conducted so far has focused on the phenomenon of open source software development, rather than use. This field study investigates the role of OSS user groups and its impact on OSS use and OSS community in general. In this presentation, Dr. Jin will share insights gained from a participant observation study conducted in five Linux User Groups around Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay Area during the time between 2002 and 2005.
