Abstract:

Web 2.0 is a phrase that refers to the new-generation, fast-growing Internet environment. Recently, an increasing number of web applications have become available for users of a range of web sites. Personalized homepage applications that conveniently integrate user-relevant web applications, such as iGoogle and MyYahoo, have been introduced by several major web companies. This phenomenon represents a realization of attempts to allow for functionality of different web applications in one homepage, and each application could work independently by using Web 2.0 technologies. The goal of this project is to develop a system that provides homepage personalization services. The final product will allow users to design and build their homepages by selecting from a pool of web applications called widgets; the system will remember the users’ preferences and develop the homepage presentation based on these preferences. With the help of Web 2.0 technologies, this project will offer many important features like homepage personalization, widgets, RSS feeds, persistent layout, and drag-and-drop.
