Abstract: 

This project describes the development and implementation of a Web-based application named iPage Personalized Web Page (the application). It has been developed using a set of programming techniques, including XHTML, JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets, XML, AJAX, PHP and MySQL that are commonly used in Web 2.0 development. The author explains Web 2.0 in the context of what preceded it, what it is, and how it changed our perception of the World Wide Web. Two fundamental aspects of Web 2.0 are interactivity and content sharing. The application demonstrates both of these aspects with the creation of a system whereby users can customize a page with RSS news feeds chosen according to their personal interests. Each of the relevant technologies is explained in detail. The author also describes how the designed programming components work in combination to enable the system to function. Finally, the author offers commentary on the project's purpose and suggests areas for future development.
