Abstract:

A practical method for adapting existing mobile applications to execute on a variety of platforms is presented. Specifically, the task of cross-compiling Android applications to web applications is considered and achieved by utilizing and extending a tool chain of existing open source projects: XMLVM, which cross-compiles between a variety of targets, including from Java to C; and Emscripten, which cross-compiles from C to JavaScript. The correctness of this approach is demonstrated by the cross-compilation of a sample application, with attention given to the particular constraints of the web and web browsers.
