Abstract: 

Time is extremely important to us nowadays because of the fast-paced life and society. However, people still spend substantial time waiting in lines at restaurants. Although some hot applications, for example, Yelp and OpenTable, allow people to make a reservation with restaurants, customers must arrive at the restaurant to sign on a waitlist if the restaurant is full. In that case, a customer has no idea of how many parties ahead of him or how long he needs to wait until he actually arrives. Such phenomenon is ubiquitous in the United States, especially for popular restaurants in big cities such as New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco. To save time for customers who wait for tables to be served, we present Waitless, an android based queue management application that allows customers to queue in a virtual line rather than a physical line that requires arrival onsite. A customer can simply get a waitlist number from a participating restaurant after login. The real-time information of each participating restaurant, such as the current number of waiting parties and estimated waiting time, are also available to customers. In the meantime, we present Waitless Host, an android based restaurant management system that helps restaurants to manage requested waitlist numbers with open tables. In a nutshell, the main objective of Waitless and Waitless Host is to save time for customers and to improve operational efficiency for restaurants.
