In today’s world, customization is considered as a key to the success of any homepage application. A homepage is extremely influential as it is considered a personal Web portal which acts as an individual’s gateway to the Internet. Every time a person opens a Web browser, the homepage loads with the personalized content. It is a means to put together in a single page a variety of information from the Web. iGoogle, Netvibes, PageFlakes, and MyYahoo are a few homepages which are being widely used. Web 2.0 Customized Homepage Application focuses on the significant area of homepage management and provides its users simple and easy to use yet flexible and sophisticated homepages. It offers an option for multiple search engines and a variety of Internet gadgets which can be added by users on their homepages. The outline and content of the homepages are kept persistent and users are able to receive the updated information on their homepages. Another latest challenge of the Internet is that it overwhelms users with a huge quantity and a wide variety of information. The developed Web 2.0 application takes into account this aspect of the World Wide Web through the RSS reader gadget which encapsulates tremendous amount of information and makes it accessible to users through RSS content. This reduces the time and effort users spend in browsing and downloading unrelated information by giving the valuable information of their interests at a glance. Apart from developing a fully functional prototype, we aimed to study in depth the latest Web 2.0 technologies like AJAX, Dynamic HTML, JavaScript, Document Object Model (DOM), XML, HTTP Requests and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).
