The Great Sunflower Project at www.greatsunflower.org is the Android mobile application we developed to help observers collect the data on pollinators in their yards, gardens, schools and parks observations and share them. This application enables the user to make the observations as required using an Android device, without the need for a personal computer, pen and paper. The application provides a user-friendly graphical interface to record the observations and take pictures of the pollinators. By bringing the Great Sunflower Project to Android devices, a previously untapped demographic of citizen scientists will be equipped to further current research into collection of pollinator data. We have designed, implemented and tested this application and performed a usability study to verify its ease of use. The results of the usability study indicated achievement of the primary goal of this project. The Great Sunflower Project Android application can be installed on devices running Android version 2.3 and above. The software is being released under an Open Source license.
